Being located in the largest crown game preserve in the world has its advantages. Although hunting and trapping in the preserve has been banned since 1925, hunting adjacent to the preserve is allowed!

This is some of the finest hunting land in the world!

Our Moose and Bear hunts are offered only through Camp Lochalsh, which sits in the southwest portion of this massive preserve. The Canadian Pacific Railway is the dividing line of the game preserve and is only ¼-mile from the camp. Once you cross those tracks, you're out of the preserve. This is where we hunt Moose and Black Bear.

Over the years, we have chosen to take fewer hunters than our area can support. We continue this strategy today. Our Bear Management Area lies adjacent to the preserve and is large enough to handle 30 hunters, but we take no more than 15-20 per year, in an effort to preserve the fine Bear hunting that we have.

He bagged a bear in the Ontario Wilderness Bear hunts are done over active baits that we maintain daily. Tree stands are our primary blinds; however, occasionally a ground blind is utilized. Bear season starts August 15th and runs though September. We can accommodate both rifle and archery hunters.

Our Moose hunts start in late September for archery and then progress into October for rifle. Our Moose hunts are first class. Every hunter is guided by their own private guide and every hunter gets an adult Moose tag. Service is our number one priority. All meals are included with the hunt and processing of the Moose is also included. We are so confident in our Moose hunt that we "Guarantee" that you will get a shot at a Moose during your visit with us!

Both our Bear and Moose hunts are in areas just south of Camp Lochalsh, which is riddled with old logging roads. With literally hundreds of miles of old roads waiting to be explored, the amount of area one can cover with an ATV or truck is extensive.

We encourage all of our Bear hunters to bring an ATV or truck to access their baits and stands everyday. Moose hunters are guided by our seasoned guides.

Crossbows
• Draw length must be al least (11.8 in.).
• Draw weight must be at least (119 lbs.).
• Bolt head must be at least (0.9 in.) at the widest point, and there must be at least two cutting edges of straight, sharp, unserrated, barbless steel.

Longbows
• Draw weight must be at least (48.5 lbs.) at draw length of (27.6 in.) or less.
• Arrow length must be at least (23.6 in.).
• Broad head must be at least (0.9 in. at the widest point, and there must be at least two cutting edges of straight, sharp, unserrated, barbless steel.

Rifle
• A rim-fire rifle, a shotgun smaller than 20 gauge when loaded with shot or any shotgun loaded with shot smaller then SG or No. 1 buck cannot be used for hunting black bear.
• For rifle hunting Black Bear we recommend using nothing less than a .270 Winchester
• Hand Guns ARE NOT PERMITTED in Canada.

Hunting Tips for Black Bear
Many of our bait sites are geared for the rifle hunter in mind, with ranges available up to 100 yards. We can set you up at a site with the yardage that you are most comfortable with. Our tree stands are well built and designed to be downwind of the bait station to minimize the chances of the bear winding your scent. The same wind and scent tactics will apply if you prefer to hunt from one of our ground blinds.

It is a good practice to keep your hunting clothes in a separate bag away from other clothing articles to maintain as scent free as possible while in your stand. Changing into your hunting clothes just prior to accessing your stand and applying scent shield are two more tactics that can put the odds in your favor to harvest your Black Bear. While a Bear's nose is its strongest asset hunters must not underestimate the Bear's sight and hearing abilities.

You will greatly increase your odds of tagging a nice trophy by minimizing your movement and noise while hunting in your stand. Be patient and let the Bear present you with a good shot.

Our Moose hunt includes a guide, one-on-one, the whole duration of your stay. Meals are custom designed around your hunting times. Licences, tags, taxes, and processing of the Moose for take home are included.

Rifle
A rim-fire rifle, a shotgun smaller than 20 gauge when loaded with shot, or any shotgun loaded with shot smaller than SG or No. 1 buck cannot be used for hunting Moose. We suggest using at the minimum one of the following: 300 Magnum, 30-06, 7MM Magnum with bullet weights in the 180 grain range.

Hunting Tips for Moose
All of our moose hunting is done in WMU 32 which is located adjacent to the Chapleau Game Preserve. Moose are prevalent and regularly move within and without the Preserve.

Our Moose hunts are fully guided and include all tags and licences. Your guide will aid you in finding and retrieving your Moose.
